He rides and drives and is always looking for something new to do. We are so blessed to have a son of Saphiro. He has his sire’s uphill movement and, like his sire, he passes it on to his foals.”

“Mateo was bred by Rainey Valley Farm.  Ginger named him Mateo, which means “a gift from God”.  Mateo came to us from Susan Kearns in 2006 a few months before his second birthday.  Susan gave Mateo a wonderful foundation and introduced him to the show ring.

Mateo is a very sociable horse and a bit of a clown.  Mateo whinnies to me every time I come out of the house.  I don’t think I ever noticed how much those greetings meant until he went to driving training for a month and I didn’t hear his call every time I stepped outside.  

Mateo is very attentive and doesn’t miss anything.  He is always looking for something to do and is never afraid to try something new.  Mateo loves to go and has incredible endurance and that, coupled with his excellent feet, make it impossible to wear him out!  He has been ridden around cattle and in the woods.  He loves to jump things on the trail and play in water.  

Because of his mind and disposition, Mateo is very versatile.  He is broke to drive as well as ride.  We would are going to work towards competing in both driving and riding events in the future.  

Mateo’s color was a bit of a mystery until the fall of 2006 when the pearl gene was isolated by UC Davis.  Genetically, Mateo carries Ee, Aa, Cr, Pr.  He has a bay base coat with one creme gene and one pearl gene.  He is capable of producing solid colors, creme colors, and pearls.  

Mateo’s oldest foals are now three and they seem to poses his active, social mind and his people loving disposition.  We are really looking forward to their further development! “
